Facts about Southampton Township and Greater Westhampton Beach

Stretching for miles along the South Fork of Long Island, Southampton is known for its superb Ocean beaches, bucolic country retreats, vineyards, mansions and country estates, rich and famous people, 5-Star restaurants, sublime spas, boutique shopping, water sports, golf courses, tennis and sports clubs, oceanfront nightlife, road rallies, art galleries, charity fund raising; all set in a paradise bounded by the sea and shore.

Hampton Real Estate is considered prime for both year-round and resort living.  Our Town is a popular seasonal resort area drawing tens of thousands of visitors and seasonal residents each season. Tourism and the vacation home industry drive the economic development engine of the town. In our communities and hamlets, you’ll find vast oceanfront mansions, bayside cottages with deeded beach rights or a share in a boat dock, waterside condominium complexes and traditional country estates all existing side by side in harmony.

Summer Fun for everyone is all about the water and the beach.  Dune Road homes, cottages and mansions all have the beach in common.  The East End Ocean beaches are a really big thing, some are considered world-class.  The Town of Southampton operates eight health-department approved beaches, which are supervised during summer months. Parking permits are required and are available for purchase at the individual beaches.

For GWB residents and vacationers there is; Cupsogue Beach, Dune Road, Westhampton.- a Suffolk-Country operation which offers Atlantic Ocean Swimming, off road vehicle access, and outer beach camping for self-contained trailers or motor homes (no tents); and the incorporated Villages of Quogue, Westhampton Beach, health-department approved public beach facilities.  These also require parking and usage permits that are available at each Village Hall.

Water Sports are also key to the Hampton lifestyle.  Boating is an integral part of the culture that dominates GWB.  There are fabulous bays that stretch from Moriches to South Hampton.  There are two great inlets or canals that one can use to enjoy Ocean Cruising or Racing.  Many homes and mansions here in town feature deep-water docking for large yachts, for others there are marinas, boat rentals and boat ramps.

There are hundreds of coves, canals and inlets that dot the shores of GWB.  Often you will find quiet country retreats nestled on bucolic lanes that meander “South of the Highway”.

With the advent of personal water sport craft from kayaks, to sailboats to jet skis, GWB is perfect for these enthusiasts.

Golf is another big thing in the Hamptons.  There are many major tournaments (charity, professional, open) that are played here and there is opportunity for the golfer to participate in one or more of these events.  The Town of Southampton is home to seven full-scale golf courses.  Public golf courses include Poxabogue Golf Course in Sagaponack and Sag Harbor Golf Course in Barcelona Neck.

Private golf clubs include Bridgehampton Golf Course, Southampton Golf Course, Hampton Hills Golf and County Club, Westhampton Beach Golf and County Club, Atlantic Golf Club, Shinnecock Hills Golf and County Club, Noyac Golf and County Club, and National Golf Links of America, Inc.  Additionally, there are 4 or 5 other public clubs within 10 to 15 minutes from the GWB footprint in nearby Brookhaven and Riverhead Townships.

Private Beach, Tennis and Sports Clubs are also part and parcel of The Hampton Life, while many homes have courts and pools and spas on premises as standard amenities.
